Golden Spike
On May 10th we went to the anniversary of the wedding of the rails. We witnessed the re-enactment of this historical event. All though I have to admit it was probably boring for the boys other than the fact that the trains kept ringing their bells and blowing their horns. After the re-enactment and a quick steam engine demonstration the guests were allowed to climb onto the trains. Kenny and Colton enjoyed being aboard the Jupiter.
Colton got a train whistle and still enjoys blowing it. Tucker just was there because he had to be. But I really enjoyed my time. I loved cheering out with a loud "Hip Hip Hooray!" And hearing the actors saying "here, here" every time they agreed with something that had been said, always brought a smile to my face. But my favorite part was by far the prayer that had been said. Even 145 years later I could still feel the power of that prayer. It also made me feel a little sad that our nation has fallen so far away from our Heavenly Father that if this event had happened now in our day there would not have been a prayer said or even a mention of God.
It is still amazing to me to see how much labor went into the building of the rails. Can you actually believe they laid down ten miles of tracks in one day? That is an amazing feat. I am glad that we were able to go and appreciate all the hard work that those men did. Some even lost their lives building the rails. And now they are just something we take for granted.

Colton's Surgery
Well, Friday was one heck of a day. We are so grateful to grandma and grandpa Noakes for watching Tucker for us. Also to my mom who went and saved the Noakes from Tucker.
We arrived at the hospital right on time. Found a close parking spot and headed on our long trek across the hospital. Guess we should have parked on the other side. We were at Primary Children's. We went to get all checked in and had to wait for about 10 minutes until we were called back by the nurse. But those ten minutes were quite fun for Colton. There was a train table in the waiting room. And he was upset that he had to leave. When we were in our room, the nurse did his vitals and kept asking him questions. He would respond with some funny answers. Apparently he doesn't have a brother anymore. We then changed him into his gown and maybe a minute or two later his surgery nurse came in. A minute after that Dr. Tagge came in. Before he could finish in came Dr. Steely the anesthesiologist.

So cute playing with his dad while we waited.
I was rather impressed with how quickly everything was done. When we started to follow Dr. Steely down the halls to the operating room he told there was a certain point we would have to stop and say goodbye. But assured us that when he would be put under he wouldn't remember us leaving him. Well, we didn't even get the chance to say goodbye. Colton started running to keep up with Dr. Steely and they raced down the halls with Colton giggling the whole way.
We checked in at the waiting room and pulled out our trusty laptops and kept busy while we waited. From the time we last saw him until the time Dr. Tagge came to talk to us was about an hour and ten minutes. Dr. Tagge said the cyst was larger than they had anticipated and that as is normal the cyst had eroded away at the bone. So they had to make an incision behind his ear so that they could do a reconstruction of his inner ear. He now a small prosthetic titanium bone in his ear.
They brought us back to the recovery room with him but he did not want to wake up. He would occasionally moan in his sleep but that was about it. They told us that we would be there for about an hour before he was awake. It really took him about an hour and forty-five minutes. This kiddo loves his sleep. We did get him to wake up for a few minutes to open his present. After he opened his new train and looked at it for a minute. He laid back down pulled the blankets back on and was out again.

He was so sleepy
We convinced him to get up to open his present. It was some trains he had picked out. He promptly fell back asleep as soon as it was all put together.

He is all ready almost all the way back to his old self. All ready picking on his brother. And going running with his dad. He is quite a joy to have around and we are glad that this is taken care of before any permanent damage had been done. I love my boy so much and I am glad that he is healthy and happy.
Trying to Turn a New Page
So I have decided that I want to spend less time on the internet and watching the TV. I would love to live a life unplugged but know that at this point it isn't likely to happen. I am going to make ourselves a challenge sometime this summer to have an unplugged week. Maybe I should do it as a challenge and see who can do it with us.
I will not be on facebook that much anymore and have decided that I will be blogging instead. That way the people who really care can come check my blog to see how we're doing. So there will be less posts with pictures. Gasp! Now you will have to start listening more to my thoughts. Scary. I know.
I also have a tumblr account that is mostly to log my journey into weight loss and into a healthier me. So feel free to check that out. morgangoudy.tumblr.com

Hiking with Daddy
Kenny took Colton with him on his weekly hiking trip. Colton was so excited to go 'camping' with his daddy. They hiked Holbrook Canyon which is just a little behind the Bountiful Temple. I was nervous to let Colton go hiking next to water and made sure that Kenny took a whole other outfit to put him into after he had fallen into the water. I was actually shocked when Colton came home wearing the same clothes he left in. From the pictures you can see that he loved throwing rocks into the running water. I know he had a good time because he keeps talking about going 'camping' with his daddy.
